Will you ever need hospital services close to home?

Darlene Shepherd is a multi-decade resident of Glengarry and a huge supporter of both the hospital and the community. For her, there’s a very straight-forward way to look at donating to Glengarry Memorial.

“My husband Rodney experienced a sudden loss of his peripheral vision. Into emergency we went – and then he was rushed to Cornwall for a CT Scan (sirens included). Everything has worked out. But having a CT Scanner close by too would have reduced the stress and the travel and the time it took to get results. So that becomes the question: Will you ever need hospital services as a resident of Glengarry and the communities around it? The answer is very likely yes. That’s why we give. That’s why we want a CT Scanner close to home, and that’s why this hospital is so important to this community.”

Darlene has seen Glengarry evolve over the years, businesses coming and going and new kinds of growth of late – without losing the upsides of a small town.

“Change here is a work in progress. We’re changing slowly and looking to attract young families to the area. We have a good infrastructure here and our municipal officials are making sound decisions. But what’s really great about this community is our vibe and our location. We have a caring and supportive community. We’re surrounded by nature, trails, great sporting infrastructure, and are within an hour of major cities and the St. Lawrence. And in the middle of it all, we have a great local hospital close by.”

The future in our part of the world has a lot of upside while we maintain the values and the charm of smaller communities. Keeping healthcare close by for both new families and for an aging population is key to realizing that upside.

” We also have clinics here (endoscopy, respiratory, etc.) and that’s because we have a great hospital. We have a terrific emergency department with caring nurses and physicians. We have caring volunteers, technologists and support staff. We have a hospital culture and the infrastructure that helps us attract healthcare professionals and teams. It’s all connected. And raising the funds required to acquire the hospital technology we need here ,and that is not covered by the taxes we pay, is an important community responsibility. Will you ever need a hospital, an emergency department or a CT Scan close to home? Now is the time to give.”

Thank you Darlene.
