Lakeside Green Environmental Consulting Supports HGMH CT Scanner Campaign

From left to right: Mark Adam, Chair of the HGMH Foundation Board, and Michael Madden, Owner of Lakeside Green Environmental Consulting and member of the Board of Directors of HGMH Fondation, recognize a $15,000 five-year commitment to the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) Foundation’s CT Scanner Campaign through the Business Steps Up initiative, which invites local businesses to support the future of community health care.

Alexandria, ON — Lakeside Green Environmental Consulting, a locally owned one-stop guide for environmental peace of mind, is making a significant impact on health care in Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SD&G). Owner Michael Madden contributed $3,000 to the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) Foundation’s CT Scanner Campaign, marking the first year of a five-year pledge totaling $15,000 through the Foundation’s Business Steps Up initiative.

“HGMH is a huge part of our community, it is part of us, and it benefits each of us who live within this wonderful area,” Madden shared.

“As a corporate citizen, I feel it is important to support our community when we can, as we can. Over the years, HGMH has provided care to every member of my family, to which I am forever grateful. This is a small way for me to give back and support a hospital that continues to be a shining star in our community, we are lucky to have it, and we need to support it to make sure we keep it shining for years to come.  I consider myself very lucky to be able to contribute to this campaign to bring new diagnostic tools to HGMH for the benefit of the entire community.”

The CT Scanner Campaign aims to bring state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technology to HGMH, improving access to timely and accurate CT scans and medical imaging for residents of the SD&G region and surrounding communities.

Lakeside Green Environmental Consulting’s multi-year commitment demonstrates how local businesses can take a leadership role in strengthening community health care.

“Lakeside Green Environmental Consulting demonstrates how a business can lead with purpose,” said Mark Adam, Chair of the HGMH Foundation Board. “Michael’s commitment helps ensure our hospital meets the evolving health-care needs of families today and tomorrow, while also showing how businesses can take responsibility for the health of our community and the environment. It’s a powerful example of how businesses can create meaningful, lasting change.”

HGMH Foundation invites other SD&G businesses to join Business Steps Up, taking an active role in supporting local health care and ensuring essential diagnostic services remain available close to home for families today and into the future.

  • HGMH Foundation 7th Washer Tournament Raises $4,500 to Support CT Scanner Campaign

HGMH Foundation 7th Washer Tournament Raises $4,500 to Support CT Scanner Campaign

Alexandria, ON The Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) Foundation is proud to announce the success of its 7th Annual Washer Tournament, held Saturday, April 11 at the Tim Hortons Dome in Alexandria. The event brought together 32 teams in a friendly but competitive day, raising approximately $4,500 in support of local healthcare initiatives.

The Tim Hortons Dome served as the backdrop for a strong show of community support, with participants, volunteers, and partners contributing to an energetic and welcoming atmosphere. While the tournament remains a popular local tradition, its purpose continues to centre on addressing real healthcare needs in the community.

Proceeds from this year’s event support the Foundation’s CT Scanner Campaign: an important step toward improving access to diagnostic imaging for local residents. The addition of a CT scanner at Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital would significantly reduce the need for patients to travel outside the region for essential tests.

“We know that having more services available locally can make things easier for patients,” said HGMH Foundation Board Chair Mark Adam. “That’s what drives events like this. The support we saw today helps us bring critical tools like a CT scanner to our hospital and advance care in our community.”

Adam added that the strength of the event lies in its simplicity and community spirit. “What stands out is how a simple, fun event can bring people together to support something we all rely on: our local hospital,” he said.

The success of the tournament was made possible through the support of valued community partners, including the Township of North Glengarry, the Tim Hortons Dome staff, B&B Food Market, Tim Hortons, Significo and major sponsor I.D.A. The People Pharmacy – Alexandria. Their contributions ensured the event ran smoothly and created an enjoyable experience for all involved.

Special recognition is also extended to the Alexandria & District Lions Club, led by Jeremy Dubeau and Cassie Depratto Nutt, for their generous $1,000 donation and their hands-on volunteer support throughout the day.

As with many community hospitals across Ontario, Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital relies on the Foundation to fund essential medical equipment. Events like the Washer Tournament play a critical role in helping bridge that gap and ensure patients have access to the care they need, close to home.

HGMH Foundation extends its sincere thanks to all participants, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters. Planning for next year’s tournament will begin in the months ahead, as the Foundation continues its work to strengthen local healthcare and advance the CT Scanner Campaign. ALEXANDRIA, ON — Pierre Vaillancourt and Suzanne Décoste have completed their $25,000 pledge to the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) Foundation with a generous donation of $26,407.69 in support of the hospital’s new CT Scanner. This gift directly supports the acquisition of a new CT scanner for the facility.

The donation strengthens access to advanced diagnostic imaging close to home, helping ensure patients across the region receive faster, more accurate care without the need to travel outside the community.

“We are proud to support healthcare in our community,” Vaillancourt said. ” As we get older, we understand that a CT Scanner will help improve diagnostic capabilities and ensure that patients, including our kids and grandkids, receive faster, more accurate care close to home. Investing in local healthcare means investing in the well-being of our families, friends and neighbours. It’s the right thing to do.”

Pierre Vaillancourt’s leadership and long-standing commitment to the Foundation have also played a significant role in advancing HGMH priorities. He has been serving on the Board of Directors for a decade. He led the organization as Board Chair during the COVID-19 pandemic. His leadership provided stability for the Foundation during a period of significant operational challenges and shifting healthcare priorities.

Pierre and Suzanne are incredible champions for local healthcare,” HGMH Foundation Chair Mark Adam said. “Pierre’s years of leadership as Chair, particularly during the pandemic, were instrumental in guiding the Foundation. The Board of Directors are all inspired by his steady and thoughtful leadership, especially during such a challenging time. He led with a deep sense of responsibility toward this community. This gift is a natural extension of that leadership. It reflects an unwavering commitment to Alexandria. Their support creates a lasting impact for every family in our region.”

The CT scanner remains a primary clinical priority for HGMH. The technology represents a significant advancement in medical capability for Glengarry and the surrounding areas. It allows the hospital to maintain a high standard of care for residents.

HGMH Foundation encourages other community members to follow this example of local leadership. Every contribution brings the hospital closer to its $3.5 million goal for the CT scanner. This project relies on the collective strength of neighbors who choose to invest in the future of rural healthcare.

Community members who wish to support the CT scanner campaign should contact HGMH Foundation. For more information, call 613-525-2222 ext. 4138 and visit www.hgmhfoundation.org.

  • $250,000 from Donors Enhances Medication Safety at Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital

$250,000 from Donors Enhances Medication Safety at Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital

Alexandria, ON – Thanks to the generosity of local donors, the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) Foundation has directed $250,000—reflecting contributions from last year and this year—toward Automated Dispensing Units (ADUs). These investments strengthen patient safety by ensuring medications are delivered accurately, on time, and reliably.

    Donor Support in Action

“Investing in Automated Dispensing Units is a very tangible way our hospital demonstrates its commitment to patient safety,” said Robert Alldred-Hughes, CEO of HGMH. “These systems ensure the right medication, in the right dose, reaches the right patient at the right time. They reduce the risk of human error and provide our clinical teams with built-in safety checks. For patients and families, this means safer, more reliable care every time medication is administered.”

Alldred-Hughes added, “Donor support allows us to move faster and go further in strengthening care close to home. Automated Dispensing Units do more than meet today’s needs; they help build a safer, more modern hospital for the future. By supporting technology that enhances safety and efficiency, our donors are directly improving outcomes for patients across our community.”

    Enhancing Clinical Care

Rachel Romany, Chief Nursing Executive at HGMH, explained, “Automatic Dispensing Units in our Emergency and Inpatient Departments help keep patients safe while they recover. Unlike manual medication carts, these systems reduce errors, prevent delays, and ensure the right medications are given at the right time, especially during urgent or high-pressure moments. For patients and families, this means safer care and greater peace of mind throughout their hospital stay.”

Annik MacLeod, Manager of Pharmacy Operations, added, “Automated Dispensing Cabinets provide secure, controlled, patient-specific access to medications. They reduce the risk of selection errors, diversion, and delays, particularly with high-alert and controlled medications. These systems allow clinicians to focus more on patient care and directly improve outcomes across the hospital.”

A Community Effort that Never Ends

Mark Adam, Chairman of the HGMH Foundation Board, highlighted the ongoing need for generosity:

“Our community’s generosity has a direct, tangible impact on patient safety. Investments like Automated Dispensing Units, alongside the ongoing CT scanner campaign, show how donor support strengthens care close to home. As long as our hospital exists, the need never ends. We aim to equip our hospital with the best possible tools to care for and heal our community. From essential diagnostic equipment to advanced technology in every department, every donation ensures patients receive the safe, high-quality care they deserve.”

The HGMH Foundation continues to raise funds for vital hospital equipment. While the CT scanner and ADUs are critical investments, many other essential pieces of equipment are needed to maintain and improve patient care. Community support is essential to ensure the hospital remains equipped with modern tools that help patients heal safely and effectively.

  • Anonymous Donor Commits $50,000 to Support Rural Health Care at HGMH

Anonymous Donor Commits $50,000 to Support Rural Health Care at HGMH

ALEXANDRIA, ON — An anonymous donor has committed $50,000 over five years to the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) Foundation to help strengthen rural health care in Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.

The first installment of $10,000 was received in December. The donation will support priority medical equipment needs at HGMH, including the campaign to bring a CT scanner to the hospital.

The donor’s decision to give was inspired by personal experiences receiving care at HGMH after moving to Alexandria from Montreal.

“On Labour Day, two months after moving to Alexandria from Montreal, I caught my hand badly in a hedge trimmer. Uncertain where to go, my wife chose the nearness of HGMH over the long drive to Cornwall. The ER was open, staffed among others, by Dr. Yuan-Innes who somehow put my fingertips back together. Given the stories of rural Ontario hospitals closing their ERs on weekends and holidays we were relieved that somehow HGMH was open that day.

We have since had three visits to HGMH between us for minor stroke, respiratory and cardio symptoms. Every time we initially wondered where to go, and every time we chose the immediate care advantage, and were cared for beyond our best hopes, with all the follow ups and referrals one could ask for.

HGMH is well beyond our expectations of what we hoped a ‘rural’ hospital can be, and it needs our support. A CT scanner is the most immediate diagnostic tool that would bring their care to the next level.

All the hard-working dedicated members of the HGMH family deserve our support, any way you can.”

Since that first visit, the couple has returned to HGMH for other urgent health concerns, reinforcing for them the importance of having reliable care close to home.

Hospital officials say access to advanced diagnostic imaging locally would significantly reduce travel time for patients and help clinicians make faster treatment decisions in time-sensitive situations such as stroke or cardiac events. Currently, many patients who require CT imaging must be transferred to other hospitals.

Mark Adam, Chair of the HGMH Foundation Board, said the pledge reflects the strong connection many residents feel toward their local hospital.

“This generous commitment reflects a deep trust in our hospital and in the people who care for this community every day,” Adam said. “In rural healthcare, access and readiness are everything. Support like this strengthens our capacity to deliver timely, high-quality care close to home — not just today, but for years to come. I hope it inspires others to consider how they, too, can help sustain and advance care at HGMH for the benefit of our entire community.”

The donation reflects the message behind the Foundation’s Be a Healer campaign, which recognizes donors as partners in patient care by helping equip frontline professionals with the tools they need.

With the first installment already received, Foundation representatives say the commitment signals growing community momentum behind strengthening rural health services in Glengarry.

Alexandria, ON — A mother’s love has sparked a transformative gift for the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital (HGMH) Foundation.

Edna Lalonde has donated $100,000 to the Foundation’s CT scanner campaign, ensuring that patients across Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry and surrounding areas receive timely, life-saving diagnoses close to home.

Edna’s gift comes from a deeply personal place:

“My son Claude and my husband Guy have been patients at HGMH. Before they passed away, they received care at this hospital. I made a promise that this hospital will remember them. This donation is my way of thanking everyone who took care of them and honouring my son’s and my husband’s memory. Their legacy lives on because of this donation, because many people will receive timely diagnosis from the CT scanner at HGMH.”
